It has a been a whirlwind of a year! Shortly after I paced this race last year I injured my spine doing calisthenics. The result was a double annular tear in my lower spine and very little running. It has been a long, slow road back to fitness and knowing I was pacing this marathon gave me a target to focus on during my recovery. I put the training in but I was so nervous as I didn't want to let anyone down if I couldn't make it around the 26.2 miles.
Luckily the training paid off and my back held up for the duration of the race. I was so happy to make it to the finish line and it is always such a lovely feeling to get all of the hugs and have lots of lovely people saying thank you for pacing. It makes it all so worthwhile. Huge congratulations to everyone who completed this marathon, especially those on the 5-hour bus. It was so fun and an absolute honour to get to know some really wonderful people while sharing the roads of Yorkshire together.
Thanks to Nick at Northern Pacing Volunteers for believing in me and thanks to my fellow pacer Rob for his excellent company... Bring a fully charged battery next time though Rob! ;)
