Today I wanted to review the newest Longmorn release, the cask strength 18-year-old! As I’ve been a longtime Longmorn fan, I broke out my 16 year from 2014 and a 15-year-old from the late 1990’s for fun!
The new 18 year was released at the back end of 2023 and was aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and hogshead barrels. It’s bottled at a solid 57.6% abv, was non-chill filtered, comes in a nice-looking presentation box and retails around $275. Unfortunately, it’s only sold in 700ml bottles. The 16 year I have is from 2014 and was bottled at the much more standard 48% abv, was also non-chill filtered, retailed around $100-$150, and came in a much smaller gray cardboard box. And lastly, the 15 year I have was from around 1997. It was “no-frills” as it didn’t come in a box, was only 45% abv., and retailed around $40. Let’s give them all a try and see how this modern 18 year release stacks up to their lower-proof releases from the past.

It was just named "The Best Overall Bourbon" in a blind competition at Tales of the Cocktail's - 2023 New Orleans Spirit Competition! It won over a lot of really big names, and just goes to show that when you take the branding away, our Saints Alley whiskeys can stand on their own!
