You see if you are going to believe in the literal "truth" of the bible and take it literally then literally is the only way that you can read it.
In this Abram takes a trip and what a trip it is.
He also find out how to make babies from the voice of the Lord who isn't the Lord, just his voice and the voice of the lord regrets his career choice.
We also get a couple of prophesies thrown in for good measure but considering the guy who wrote this bit wrote it after the prophesies were supposed to have already happened, was he cheating?
This one gets a little surreal at times but lets face it, if you were reading it literally how would you interpret it?
