Lighterwood (fatwood, pine knot, lighter knot, or heart pine) hollow form. It threw itself from my lathe five times and I persevered. The sixth time and I was done (just as soft as working with normal pine). Cleaned it up with some sanding, then Ack’s abrasive paste then carnuba wax. Finish buffing with a clean shoe shine brush. This was a root piece and you can see the darker bark still attached with a natural intricate structure.

$Turned Rosewood Pill Box Small rosewood bowl blank, cut in half to expose more ‘decorative’ features. Heat fractures showed up along grain lines while coring - filled with black Starbond CA glue. Sanded to 600 grit outside and 320 grit inside and base. Finished with red dyed ‘shine juice’. Cleaned up with Ack’s abrasive paste and Carnuba Polishing Paste. Final dimensions - 5-5/32 inches tall, 2-5/32 outside diameter, 1-5/8 inches inside diameter.$
