Modern cities bathe in night light and it can have a detrimental effect on animals, insects and, of course, humans. There is too much light coming from buildings, advertisements and street and area lighting. The formation of light pollution can be avoided, but it requires responsible use of light. Helsinki, the capital of Finland, set out to find out where light pollution comes from and what could be done about it. WSP carried out a large-scale study, on the basis of which the problem and solutions were described and appropriate follow-up measures were sought. For example, one of Helsinki's tramway development projects examines light pollution during design, construction and implementation phases, so the problem has already been concretely included in project planning.
