A tribute to actress Leila Hyams (May 1, 1905 – December 4, 1977). She was a popular actress at MGM in the late silent/early talkie era; by the end of the decade she decided to retire to focus on her marriage, but she remained an active part of the Hollywood social scene. While she's not widely remembered today, she appeared in several classic pre-code films. The song is by Ben Bernie & His Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra, recorded in 1929. Enjoy!

One of my favorite classic novels has been adapted several times (the first two silent film versions are sadly lost), and the most well-known is featured in this video. All three versions (1979, 1998, and 2008) are very good in their own way, and the three actresses who played the lead role each brought something special and unique. This is another re-do of an older video, with My Skin by Natalie Merchant as the background music. The tragic story of a young girl in the 19th century who was a victim of fate as well as the people and society around her (two men, in particular), is timeless and extremely moving. Enjoy!
