A tribute to Deanna Durbin (December 4, 1921 – April 17, 2013) on what would have been her 98th birthday. She was known as "Winnipeg's Sweetheart" and she saved Universal studio from bankruptcy in the late 1930s, yet she is not as widely remembered today as her contemporaries such as Judy Garland, perhaps because she retired from films and left Hollywood in 1948, moving to France with her third husband, director Charles David. A gifted singer with a beautiful soprano voice and with a charming, likable acting style, Deanna was a very popular star in her day.
