Before Joel McCrea (November 5, 1905 – October 20, 1990) become known for his work in Westerns, he was a leading man in many pre-code films - the tall, handsome actor was teamed with many well-known actresses of the era and did a lot of shirtless scenes (no complaints!). I hope I captured some of his appeal in this video. The song is "Carelessly" by Billie Holiday, recorded in 1937.

One of my favorite classic novels has been adapted several times (the first two silent film versions are sadly lost), and the most well-known is featured in this video. All three versions (1979, 1998, and 2008) are very good in their own way, and the three actresses who played the lead role each brought something special and unique. This is another re-do of an older video, with My Skin by Natalie Merchant as the background music. The tragic story of a young girl in the 19th century who was a victim of fate as well as the people and society around her (two men, in particular), is timeless and extremely moving. Enjoy!
