You know, impossible battles might be bad, but at least you give up on them pretty quickly and just start cheesing on them. Battles like this are much more annoying, where things FEEL like they're possible, but then they take like a hundred tries to get right.
At the end of B1F you fight all three shadow onis at once. Kasen does the same as she did before, Suika will skip the buffing and just go straight to dealing a ton of damage, and Yuugi will just spam Knockout in Three Steps every turn she gets for overkill damage. One by one they're not so bad, but having all three together is a nightmare as it's basically not very possible to handle both Kasen and Suika's damage output at the same time, never mind Yuugi joining in the mix.
Thankfully, my team does have the tool (Chen) for rushing down Suika quickly since she's got low DEF and a weakness to FIR, so mostly the problem comes down to surviving long enough to actually make that happen, which is helped by Yuugi having 0 resistance to SHK and Suika having very little resistance to PAR. Even still, Chen will die to a single Gathering and Dissipating or Echoes of the Nine Forest Gods, so the run pretty much comes down to hoping that neither happens before she can rush down Suika, and of course I have to watch out for Yuugi's turns and make sure Renko is switched out when a Knockout in Three Steps is imminent. I cannot count the number of times when Chen's got Suika on the ropes, only for Kasen to just go "lol no u" and use Echo (she's got 5.5% chance of using it at full health). Thankfully Yuyuko can survive an Echo with no problem so after Suika is dead, but Yuugi's Knockout in Three Steps actually doesn't always target the left slot so the chance of her going for your attacker in the back is always there. All in all it took several dozen tries for everything to go right and I'm really glad that this was finally over with, because I was severely tempted to just go "Screw it" and overlevel at least several times.
30 minutes later: I just realized that I completely forgot to assign level up bonus points for Chen and Yuyuko after using Books of Reincarnation on them, lol. They could've been doing way more damage and finishing the fight way faster. Oh well.
