During the Computer World tour in 1981, Kraftwerk played their first concerts in Spain, Poland and Hungary where they are popular, but couldn't play before because of the Spanish dictatorship or the censorship of Western media in the former Eastern bloc. They also did their first live performances in Australia, India and most importantly in Japan which was a big achivement for them because transporting their heavy and fragile equipment to the other side of the globe was difficult. This and the 1998 tour were the only ones where they transported their old equipment by plane several times.

The Japanese were intrigued by Kraftwerk's music like the Black Americans. In the US, there were Kraftwerk-inspired artists like Afrika Bambaataa who established a genre which is called hip hop and is now part of mainstream music. In Japan, there were artists as well who were inspired by Kraftwerk like Yellow Magic Orchestra who reinvented electronic music in Japanese style. Unlike hip hop, this style of electronic music couldn't make it into mainstream music, but it influenced other genres like video game music.

Known for their politeness during concerts, the Japanese audience wasn't disappointed by Kraftwerk's live performances. They especially clapped and cheered when Japanese lyrics were sung in Numbers and Pocket Calculator aka. Dentaku. 10 years later, Kraftwerk planned to play in Japan, but cancelled the concerts because of difficulties with equipment transport. In 1998, it was about time for Kraftwerk to play there. They optimized their equipment so that nothing can get broken during transport and they could fly from continent from continent again.

When the Votrax intro started playing, the venue was filled with claps, cheers and loud screams. It was 17 years earlier when Kraftwerk played in Japan last time and the audience was definitely louder than in 1981. They even sang to the Japanese lyrics in Numbers and Dentaku. One can tell from the rough and unpolish live performance that this was the first concert of the 1998 tour. The Model got readded to the setlist and during that song a sound sample from Autobahn was triggered most likely by a broken MIDI signal. Ralf had problems with his mic which was the case in Karlsruhe 1997 too. His voice is quiet at some places and it sounds like as if he would sing through a pipe. He got the lyrics wrong in Dentaku, but the audience continued singing for him. Normally, only a rock band would let the audience sing alone, but Ralf did it by accident. "So kann mans auch machen. - You can also do it that way.", he responded afterwards most likely with a smile.

After Tango, a Robovox glitch can be heard. Some say that they tried to play Lichthof, but the project file is corrupted which is why the Robovox always gets stuck, but others doubt it. I think that it was Lichthof because the Robovox here sounds the same as in Lichthof.

This audio source was taped on a DAT. Normally, DAT recordings have high quality, but this one is far away from high quality. The frequency range is wide, but one channel is distorted and the sound is extremely flat. I removed the distorted channel and replaced it by a clone of the unaffected channel. Then I used a plugin that recreates the stereo effect. Now it's only pseudo stereo audio, but it is better than mono audio and true stereo audio with one channel distorted. I will come back with a re-remaster when an alternative source with clean true stereo audio gets leaked. To make the sound warm and clean, I increased the low-mid frequencies and the treble. The screams are really loud and had to be brutally suppressed in few places which is why the sounds may sound off there. For increasing stereo width, I used another plugin.
