Previously in the Northern winter leg of this tour, Kraftwerk played at the Electraglide festival in Japan. They used this occasion to test how much easier the new, fully digitalized and virtualized studio can be transported intercontinentally and if it resists against extreme temperatures. The transport got easier and cheaper indeed and the live equipment resisted the Japanese winter so far. This time, they mostly played at the Big Day Out festival in Australia and New Zealand with six concerts in each city, Auckland in New Zealand and Gold Coast, Sydney as for the second performance, Melbourne as for the first one, Adelaide and Perth in Australia. Only the second concert in Melbourne and the first in Sydney which is this one in the video were not part of the festival.
The question now is if Kraftwerk's new Kling Klang Studio can bear the Oceanian heat. No device showed signs of heat stress, but in some concert pictures of this tour leg, a water bottle can be seen near Florian. The heat dehydrated him quickly. Except for a few mistakes here and there, the performance went smoothly. The song arrangements got minor changes once again. Home Computer ends during the second arp part and Tour De France starts without the pad intro like in earlier gigs of The Mix tour. Airwaves and Tango got re-added between Neon Lights and Sellafield 2. Brief syncing problems occured in Autobahn and The Model. Henning hit the wrong bass note at the beginning of the second instrumental half in Neon Lights. Sellafield 2 cuts straight in during the vocoder speech and Ralf accidentally pressed a key during Metal on Metal.

Audio recordings of the Australian 2003 tour leg are few in number, but all of them I have are more or less in high quality. This one has a clear, but initially flat sound and only EQ adjustments were needed.
