Today we’re going review two “limited edition” bourbons side-by-side. Both are right at 100 proof and retail around $125. Knob Creek 15 Year is a Beam product and is made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% barley. I’ve seen them being sold with or without the wooden box at the same $125 price point. It weighs in at 100 proof and was distributed fairly widely – so hopefully you can still find them near you. The Evan Williams 12 Year is bottled at 101 proof and was for many years a Japanese only export. It weighs in at 100 proof and is a Heaven Hill product that’s made from a mash bill of 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% barley. While it’s still mainly exported, it can now also be found at the Evan Williams Experience in Louisville, Kentucky. One thing to note is that my Evan Williams 12 improved a lot after being opened for 2-3 months. The Knob Creek 15 was pretty good from the start, but did round out a bit with just a little air. Okay, now let’s see what I think of these mature bourbons coming from two of the biggest bourbon distilleries.
