The surprise for me was the Penstar. I had slightly underestimated it. The writing feel, screen gap, contrast and handwriting rendering are all much better than I remembered, and it now feels like a device that deserves a proper re-review.
But the comparison is not simple. The Kindle Scribe looks excellent for PDFs and images, especially where contrast and photo handling matter. The reMarkable Paper Pure has a lower PPI display, but its anti-aliasing and handwriting rendering make it look smoother than the number suggests. And the Penstar 2, despite some weaker image handling, has a really strong case as a pure writing device.
So this is partly a comparison, partly a display test, and partly a reminder that specs do not always tell the whole story.
