"Kind of a Drag", recorded by The Buckinghams in 1966, was the title track of their debut LP. The single reached the #1 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1967. It was the first of the band's three Top 10 hits in that year including five total Top 40 hits. The song sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc, and the group went on to become one of the top selling acts of 1967. They adopted the name Buckinghams reflective of the British invasion that was popular at the time and to its similarity to their hometown landmark Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, Illinois. The band was inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame, and as of 2017, the current members continue to tour throughout the United States.
