Kevin Costner Will Regret Walking into Zack Snyder’s Footsteps if Horizon: 1 Fails to Turn a Corner

Kevin Costner departed from Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone series in order to concentrate on his own endeavor, Horizon: An American Saga. The actor is sure that viewers will enjoy his work on the four-part movie, and he is pretty pleased of it.

Hollywood has adopted the practice of releasing movies in multiple parts, which typically doesn't benefit the program or the viewership. It already sounds similar to what Zack Snyder did when he produced Rebel Moon, a two-part space drama, that Costner would release two films with a few weeks' gap between them.

Kevin Costner Is Certain About The Success Of Horizon: An American Saga.

Actor Kevin Costner defended his choice to release Horizon: An American Saga in two parts this year in an interview with Fandango. Additionally, he conveyed his optimism that the film will do exceptionally well at the box office.

Why must I wait for two years? I made two because I knew that Horizon 1 would be something that people would be interested in seeing. I didn't have to wait after it because my story wasn't finished.

The actor seemed to be very proud of the work that he authored, directed, and starred in. The subject, he claimed, has been simmering since the 1980s, and he believes it would make a good movie that he could see.

I believe that by sharing my narrative and engaging with audiences, I will inspire them to say "yes" and take ownership of the material. They coax it out of themselves to share.

However, it appeared that the movie did not sit well with the audience. When this four-part movie anthology's first edition debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in France, the majority of critics gave it a bad review.

Horizon: An American Saga has a 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which does not seem very great. According to most of the site's evaluations, it was unimpressive and lacked emotional depth. The fact that it is a three-hour set-up for the following one did not help either.

How else is the second installment going to salvage the series if the first installment is already a huge failure? It does not appear to have been a smart decision for Costner to split the release of the film into two parts.

The Horizon Franchise Could Become Similar to Rebel Moon by Zack Snyder.

Zack Snyder shared Kevin Costner's belief in Rebel Moon. It was an original work of his that was split into two parts and released on Netflix. Fans already know that didn't work out and that it damaged the director's reputation in some way.

A Child of Fire, the first installment, debuted in December 2023 and received a score of 21%, while The Scargiver, the second feature, debuted in April 2024 and received a score of 15%. Currently, viewers have already determined that the plot isn't for them, therefore there's no reason to watch Part 2.

With reviews for the first installment of the story being overwhelmingly negative, Costner's film is in a same dangerous place as Rebel Moon.

On June 28, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 is released in theaters.
