Kevin Costner admits he’s tried cocaine, claims experience was ‘kind of lucky for me’
It's "kind of lucky" that Kevin Costner, who acknowledged having tried cocaine once, didn't find it enjoyable.
The 69-year-old actor talked candidly about his early days in the business and how, in exchange for doing work, he was once offered cocaine rather than cash.
Prior to landing roles in "Field of Dreams" and "The Postman," Costner produced commercials and other films while working as a stage manager at Raleigh Studios. The actor was given the responsibility of assisting with the stage's rewiring after landing a bigger show.
Costner remembered, "The electricians came over like rock stars," while making an appearance on Dax Shepard's "The Armchair Expert." "They were getting everything ready, really, really strong. After three weeks of only hanging cables, sets were constructed."
He clarified, "I got it for them whenever they needed it."
"At one point, they lead me back into the grip room, hand me a little line of coke, and say, 'Here.'" And they respond, like, 'We appreciate everything you're doing for us,'" Costner disclosed.
Therefore, I do nothing and that. And I repeat the action twice. "It's my third time doing it," the Oscar winner recollected. "When I eventually remarked, "Hey, look, how much is that?" to them. "That's about $20 right there," he remarks, and I respond, "Can I say something to you?" "Yeah, f---, of course, man, what?" he exclaims. I then mentioned that I was attempting to purchase my first home and asked for $20 if you thought what I was doing was cool. I'd want to have $20. And I left the club right away."
Costner stated that because he had no interest in the substances, he was ultimately "excluded" from the group.
He said to Shepard, "I didn't like coke, so it was kind of lucky for me." "There was nothing there for me."
