Here’s a receiver I bought a while back, and it’s incredible and works well. Needed a whole bunch of lamps and it’s a little tricky to get to all of them, but I was able to get the job done.
Also recapped and reflowed the solder on the main driver board. Found that one of the channels was intermittent. Still am not sure if it was a cap issue or loose transistor screws which form the ground connection (most likely).
Still, this is a great piece and it really does sound great. in it seems a lot more powerful than 40 WPC - seems more like 60-75 to me.
I love the 4 VU meters and overall large display. Excellent bass treble and loudness variability, you can really tailor your sound here. The video here doesn’t do justice. It sounds distorted, but it is crystal clear and has a lot more to go if I work to turn it up further.
Seems to be quite a few of these out there based on Facebook posts. I have a feeling this one just seems to work and engineered probably very well as all the classic Kenwoods were.
If you want the upgraded TOTL version which has 10 more watts per channel you go with the 9940. I would assume it’s very similar inside.
