Kenny Burrell Midnight Blue is the next title I've decided to add to my Late Night Jazz Pick series. It has all the things I look for in choosing some jazz for the wee hours of the morning. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder and released on Blue Note in 1963, Midnight Blue is considered by many to be at the top of Kenny Burrell's output for the label. It features Stanley Turrentine on tenor sax, Major Holley on bass, Bill English on drums and Ray Barretto on conga. This combination, along with splendid guitar from Kenny Burrell shape the late night vibe of the album.
On hand for this video was the Blue Note Classic, an AAA cut from the master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearant, and the Music Matters SRX, also an AAA cut from the original master tape.
