It's a privilege to do cardiovascular research in addition to taking care of patients with cardiovascular disease. It gives me the opportunity to find ways to improve the care that I deliver to patients. In addition, we get to use sophisticated data from advanced cardiac imaging, like cardiac MRI, and also data from electrocardiograms. We can then apply sophisticated mathematical models and artificial intelligence to find ways to improve outcomes for our patients.
My name is Kenneth Bilchick. I am a professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Virginia. In my research, we use cardiac MRI, electrocardiograms, and artificial intelligence to find ways to personalize these therapies for our patients and improve the outcomes from these procedures.
The goal of my research is to help patients with heart disease live long and healthy lives. Right now, in my specialty called clinical cardiac electrophysiology, we have advanced procedures such as catheter ablation, pacemakers, and defibrillators that can very much improve a patient's arrhythmia and improve their overall heart function. Still, there remains a need to personalize therapies for individual patients and improve the way these therapies are delivered. My research uses advanced cardiac imaging and other tools to achieve these goals and help patients have the best health outcomes possible.
