Nature and freedom are recurring themes in the films of director Kelly Reichardt. The steppe and desert in MEEK'S CUTOFF, the mountain landscape in OLD JOY, water and woods in NIGHT MOVES. She drives her actors and with them the audience constantly further into the environments, into the deep. In cultural history "nature" is often a longing, a place of retreat, but also a place of change. In our interview Kelly Reichardt spoke with us about the romatic idea of Yearning and its relation to her own filmmaking experiences.
