Brothers Giles and Connell Miller brought professional football to Texas in 1952 by purchasing the New York Yanks. The struggling National Football League franchise fared no better as the Dallas Texans, ceasing operations after a single season with a 1–11 record. The state would not see another professional football team until 1959, when businessmen Lamar Hunt and Bud Adams established the competing American Football League (AFL). Hunt owned the Dallas franchise, also named the Dallas Texans. The second iteration of the Dallas Texans played for three seasons, even winning the 1962 AFL Championship in double overtime, before moving to Kansas City and becoming the Kansas City Chiefs.
