The Jeep is due for MOT (annual vehicle inspection here in the UK), but it certainly won't pass this time as we have some major rust issues. Mainly boot floor, rear spring mounts and some part of the right sill are eaten away by salty roads in the winter time and our seaside climate.
Well, that's what we know so far, but the list will be growing while working on it, ... as with most jobs on an old truck.
In this episode we have a quick look at the obvious damage, but there is more ....
I do have an original factory boot floor, but that involves a lot of metal in the rear has to be removed to get it fitted properly, and then everything must be welded back on. No other sheet metal parts available in the UK, therefore everything required has to be made from scratch.
Also ordered some new springs and shackles as my old ones are over 12 years (and 120k miles) old, showing quite a lot of wear. These were aftermarket parts, not really sagging as the factory set did, but very worn at the edges.
