Hotel Park City/Ruth’s Chris Super Fan Janene Creer joins live in the Provo studio, explaining that unlike some of the show's generational BYU families, her fandom started from scratch as a freshman who slept outside the Marriott Center just to land tickets. She shares her most memorable BYU story: working a campus job cleaning LaVell Edwards Stadium the night Ty Detmer and the Cougars upset No. 1 Miami in 1990 — a game she attended, ironically, in a red shirt before Cougar gear was as ubiquitous as it is today. After marrying into an Air Force family, Janene spent eight years as an international fan stationed in Germany, staying up until 2 or 3 a.m. to catch games on a free ESPN feed rather than miss a single one.
Back home now, Janene and her husband — a former ROTC commander who gets a ticket discount and now works for the business school — make game days at LaVell Edwards Stadium a couple's tradition, complete with pregame stops at the business school tent. Looking ahead to the season, her formula for a Big 12 title and playoff berth is simple: "play clean, don't do stupid things." She's especially locked in on the Notre Dame game, both for the rivalry's marquee stakes and a personal grudge — she has close friends who are die-hard Irish fans, including one stationed with the Air Force chief of staff's office, and she's still smarting from BYU's last meeting with Notre Dame in Las Vegas.
