James Peak is a prominent 13er in the Front Range of Colorado and can be accessed year round. I climbed this peak in winter before in snowshoes. On this occasion I skinned up to the summit via the standard St Mary’s Glacier route and then skied down the same way. The snow coverage was almost continuous from the summit down to St Mary’s Lake, with the exception of a flat section in the middle about a quarter mile long where I had to carry my skis over tundra. All in all it was a fun day skiing with some awesome views along the way. Total stats from $10 parking lot: 8 miles with 2900ft elevation gain
