First-generation graduate Heidi Worley (’25) is ready to start her career in the antepartum unit of the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Her experience as a nursing student, she says, is the reason why.
Worley earned her degree through the BSN Scholars Program, a partnership between UT and UTMC. BSN Scholars learn and train at UTMC, receive a scholarship that covers tuition, and commit to three years working at the medical center following graduation.
“Our classrooms and our labs are set up with supplies that are exactly what we’ll be using [at UTMC],” Worley explains. “Our instructors tell us what meds we might see or what patient populations we might be more exposed to.”
She sees every interaction with a patient as a chance to embody the Volunteer spirit.
“I’m doing things that might not be glamorous,” Worley says, “but it’s things that give our patients dignity and allow them to feel cared for.”
