On October 1st, Deputy Himmel observed a red Honda motorcycle at the Wawa gas station on SE Abshier Blvd. The problem? The tag didn’t match the bike, prompting an attempted traffic stop. However, the motorcycle's operator, later identified as Tyler Beers, fled at the sight of flashing red and blue lights, speeding off northbound on Highway 441. A pursuit ensued, with Beers trying to evade deputies.
The chase continued through residential streets, with speeds ranging from 35 to 85 mph, before Air One joined the pursuit. Once Air One arrived, deputies in pursuit terminated the chase, turning off their lights and sirens, and backing off. What Beers didn’t realize was that we hadn’t given up; our eye in the sky was watching, tracking him to a home on SE 93rd Place. Imagine his surprise when deputies arrived and placed him under arrest.
A search of Beers revealed synthetic cannabis, fentanyl, and various drug paraphernalia. Oh, and that motorcycle? It was stolen from Gainesville just two weeks prior. Beers now faces charges of Grand Theft Auto, Fleeing to Elude Law Enforcement, Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Synthetic Cannabis, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Guess his plan to avoid jail by running from deputies didn’t quite work out.
