There was a pamphlet war in 1775 and 76 between Thomas Paine, Rev. Evans and Dr. Price and the founders of the Methodist Church, John Wesley and John Fletcher. The cornerstone of the debate centered around the role of Adam. Dr. Price argued that when Adam died the authority he had was then distributed equally to all men. Fletcher argued that Adam's authority as King was only given to those called to rule as heads of government located in the various nations. As an example he said that King George III passed his kingly authority to his eldest son, the prince of Wales. The other sons only inherited the right to be fathers from King George. At first John Wesley wrote in 1775: "A Calm address to Our American Colonies." Then Wesley's right hand man, John Fletcher, wrote " A Vindication of the Rev. Mr. Wesley's "Calm Address to our American Colonies." in 1776. Finally, again in 1776 Fletcher wrote "American Patriotism Farther Confronted with Reason, Scripture, and the Constitution: Being Observations on the Dangerous Politicks Taught by the Rev. Mr. Evans, M.A. and Rev. Dr. Price. with a Scriptural Plea For the Revolted Colonies." Fletcher argued that the principles of the "Patriots" were the same principles that Satan argued for when he persuaded one third of the angels to join him in rebellion against God. American Patriotism is actually the destruction of true patriotism. Patrios means: "of one's fathers". Ultimately Adam is the supreme Father and a real Patriot will fight to defend Adam's honor. Sirach 49:16 says Adam is to be honored above all men. The American Revolution directly attacked the authority of King George over the American Colonies by denying Adam had any relevance to any political authority. So now America maintains that all government in the world should only derive its authority from the consent of the people. Fletcher and Wesley vehemently denied this and asserted with St. Paul in Romans 13 that government is ordained of God and all Christians must obey the powers that be so long as what is commanded is not sinful. Fletcher predicted that if the American Patriots won the war the whole world would see the reversal and destruction of all relationships. Wives would not submit to their husbands, slaves would not submit to their masters, subjects would not submit to their governing authorities and even children would not submit to their parents. For Americans to be saved from these destructive principles they will have to repent of the sins of their fathers all the way back to 1776.
