Peter did this presentation in response to three comments from the same person challenging this notion. The commenter argues that he takes the position of the “Church”. He says one must be a nutcase if he thinks wives should call their husbands master or lord. He argues that husband and wife are equals. He is taking the position of the modern church for sure. Peter counters this position using William Gouge’s book “Domestical Duties” which the pilgrims brought with them along with the Geneva Bible. Gouge admits that it appears husbands and wives are equal. But this appearance is deceptive. Gouge gives an excellent defense for biblical marriage which has been lost even in the churches.
