...#fireitupfriday again & this time I wanted to take it right back with my #firestone & go full on caveman style with Iron pyrite & amadou.
.
...Amadou is the trama layer off fomes fomentarius fungus other wise known as horses hoof fungus & was what otzi the ice man used to make fire with flint & iron pyrite.
.
...I was a bit reluctant to try this at first as striking these #firestones against anything hard is not really a good idea but in the name of learning I was prepared to risk it.

...Once You've got your amadou fluffed up into a a decent pile it's just a matter of persistent bashing until you land a spark that catches. This probably took around five minutes before one landed & I had to keep rearranging the amadou to clear the dust off the surface.

...I did end up chipping a flake of my stone & totally dulling the cutting edge so bear this in mind & only consider doing this if you really had to because you'll need diamond grinding tools to put it right & that's if you don't break it altogether.
