Earthquakes threaten a large percentage of homes and public buildings across the EU. At the same time, inefficient energy consumption of outdated buildings is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.
We are putting forward a holistic approach to improve simultaneously the seismic safety and energy efficiency of the European building stock. Our approach is sustainable, combines renovation efforts to reduce building vulnerability and to protect lives, upgrades the energy efficiency of ageing structures to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, and tackles the problem of energy poverty.
The REEBUILD project aims to define solutions that can reduce seismic vulnerablilty and increase energy efficiency of existing buildings, consequently increasing their resilience to nature hazards and climate change.

The Joint Research Centre, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), has set up the European Consumer Food Waste Forum in order to address consumer food waste. Researchers and practitioners work together to find solutions and develop tools to help reduce consumer food waste. The EC Knowledge Centre for Bioeconomy coordinates the dissemination of the Forums activities.
