I don't know what I was expecting from a game called "Untitled Sonic Fangame" but I sure wasn't expecting this. Truthfully, the high-stakes, "end of the world, race for the fate of the Universe" soundtrack mixed together with Genesis/Megadrive Sonic sprites clash so much, it goes from stupidly funny to actually genius... that and the soundtrack in question is from the Grid racing games.
I feel the need to stress the part about the soundtrack, because it feels like this Sonic fangame was specifically made me for me to play and nobody else lol, because I doubt any other Sonictuber or Sonic channel that covers Sonic fangames or mods knows about this. It's probably the only reason I even got curious about covering Untitled Sonic Fangame, because it doesn't look all that special at first glance.
That said, for as dumb and out of place as the soundtrack is, it fits the gameplay style and premise it's trying to go for, that being inspired by "Eggman Hates Furries". Honestly I should probably play that too...
Despite the familiar sprites, it doesn't play at all like a classic Sonic game, there is no badnick bounce, the concept of pinball physics and momentum are pretty much nonexistent (and rolling requires you to hold diagonal down instead of just down if you want to gain any speed from slopes while rolling), instead being more designed like a more traditional action platformer where you go really fast... and it works, provided you get used to it. Definitely worth checking out.
