Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is making infections harder, deadlier and more expensive to treat, according to a major study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The study analysed 1,59,336 hospitalised patients across 20 tertiary-care hospitals between April 2022 and April 2025. Among them, 26,213 developed infections caused by four major Gram-negative bacteria: E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
