Initially their sound was characterized as a "poppier American style", but later devolved into "a cabaret-ish band", and dressed like Paul Revere & the Raiders wearing colonial outfits on stage. New Colony Six was inducted into the Iowa Rock n' Roll Music Association Hall of Fame in 2002.
