After nearly 30 years of owning every PlayStation since the PS1, I've sold my PS5 Pro, and I did it before Grand Theft Auto 6 even launched. This is the full story of how I got here and why I'm walking away from PlayStation.
An opinion piece on selling the PS5 Pro and leaving PlayStation behind.
The original reason I bought into PlayStation was Final Fantasy, but with Square Enix now shifting toward multiplatform releases, that value has evaporated. Beyond Final Fantasy, PlayStation's first party lineup just isn't for me, and the one exclusive I genuinely love, Days Gone, I already own on Steam. Add to that Sony's decision to end physical disc production for new games from 2028, taking away the physical media I care about most, and there was simply nothing keeping me on the platform anymore.
This video covers why I bought the console in the first place, why the Final Fantasy value proposition falling apart changed everything, my thoughts on physical media and digital ownership, why a potential reversal wouldn't bring me back, and why GTA 6 wasn't enough to hold onto the Pro, especially with the money from the sale going toward a dedicated gaming PC instead. I also touch on the surprising and frankly toxic response I got from some PlayStation fans after posting about the sale.
This isn't hate for the sake of it, it's disappointment after nearly three decades of support. Let me know where you stand in the comments, whether you've thought about jumping ship too, or whether you think I'm overreacting.
