After many frame rate test videos, I have completely overhauled my workflow to make producing them dramatically faster, and this video walks through exactly how I did it.
Breakdown of the tools and process behind my Nintendo Switch 2 and console frame rate test videos.
The biggest change is moving from TrDrop to XiFPS, my own custom built frame rate and resolution analysis tool, purpose built for the exact kind of testing I do. On the capture side, I no longer rely on OBS recording lossless footage, instead using Elgato Studio to record .mp4 HEVC videos directly, which removes a huge amount of file size and processing overhead. That change also eliminated the need for Handbrake entirely. Finally, the whole editing process has moved away from Vegas and into DaVinci Resolve, which this entire video was edited in.
The result is a frame rate test pipeline that is faster at every single stage, from capture through analysis to final edit. If you make frame rate test videos, performance analysis content, or any kind of game capture content and want to speed up your own workflow, this breakdown covers the exact tools and changes that made the biggest difference for me.
Whether you are here for XiFPS specifically, curious about the move to Elgato Studio and HEVC capture, or interested in the switch to DaVinci Resolve, this video lays out the full process. Subscribe for more frame rate tests and content creation breakdowns.
