Got a pile of woodturning scraps building up in the corner of the workshop? In this video, I show how you can utilise offcuts and waste into real profit by casting them in resin and creating a one-of-a-kind bowl.
I cast a mix of woodturning scraps and resin offcuts in Alumilite Clear Slow, then mounted the blank on my Record Power Coronet Herald wood lathe. The bowl was turned using negative rake carbide tools from Easy Wood Tools, making the process smooth and controlled when cutting through resin.
For finishing, I: Dry sanded up to 240 grit, Wet sanded through to 1000 grit, Applied Yorkshire Grit abrasive paste, Buffed the surface using multiple buffing compounds to bring out the depth and clarity of the resin
This is a great way to reduce waste, create premium-looking pieces, and add extra income to your woodturning without buying new material.
