In this special collaboration, I teamed up with Wendy from the YouTube channel Toonpish Crafts to create this resin dolphin lathe art piece with a sycamore base 🐬✨
The dolphin itself was cut from a stunning piece of Maple Burl, paired with Red Mallee Burl, then brought together in resin to form the centre piece of this project.
I turned the base on my Record Power Coronet Herald wood lathe, using Easy Wood Tools carbide turning tools fitted with negative rake cutters for smooth, controlled cuts on the mixed materials.
For the finish, I worked through:
Yorkshire Grit Original
Yorkshire Grit Microfine
Final polish with Hampshire Sheen Original
That combo really brings out the depth in the resin and the figure in the wood.
