Houston police shot and wounded a man accused of pointing a weapon at a caller and his child Thursday evening in west Houston. Officers responded to a report of a suspicious armed person near 14300 Westheimer Road and were told the suspect had pointed a gun at a man and his child, who took shelter in a nearby restaurant. When officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot, leading police on a chase into a nearby neighborhood. Investigators say the suspect repeatedly pointed a weapon at pursuing officers and ignored commands to drop it. One officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect, who was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Authorities said the suspect has a prior criminal history, and the incident remains under investigation.
