Hoyt Mountain is a 4-mile loop in Angeles National Forest that starts with a scramble up a steep use trail to the summit, where you get panoramic views of the San Gabriel Fault and surrounding forest. The descent follows an old trail carved into the cliffside about 100 years ago and passes the LA Outdoor School, which has been running since 1925. It's a solid option if you want something less crowded than nearby peaks but still want elevation and views. The route combines off-trail navigation with established trail, so expect some route-finding on the way up.
