In this DROPS video we show you how to work knit 1, purl 1, back and forth using the UK / US knitting style. This textured pattern is called rib/ribbing and is one of many varieties.


BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
The textured pattern stitches are divisible by 2. For the pattern to be symmetrical on both sides the stitch count needs to be divisible by 2 + 1 stitch. We have cast on with a stitch count divisible by 2 + 1 stitch and, in addition, 1 edge stitch on each side (the edge stitches are worked in garter stitch = knitted on all rows). We have already worked a few centimeters of the ribbed pattern.

THE VIDEO SHOWS:
ROW 1: Knit 1, purl 1 to end of row, with 1 edge stitch on each side.
ROW 2: The stitches are worked in the same way as those below = knit above knit and purl above purl, with 1 edge stitch on each side.

Repeat ROW 2 onward.
