Milky Way Photography season is BACK! But the Milky Way Galactic Core is very very low on the horizon right now, so how do you know if the hills in your area are going to be too high to offer you a clear view of the Milky Way? My favorite iOS and Android App - PhotoPills - comest to the rescue with its Pin to Pin Geodetic info! But how on earth do you use it?
Knowing that out here in Utah we have plenty of Mountains I have to think of places that are flat or MOSTLY flat. In PhotoPills Planner Pill and using the Pin to Pin Geodetic Info module, I can place a black pin on the top of the mountains or hills between me and the Milky Way Galactic Core and check to see if that hilltop will be too tall for me to see the Milky Way Galactic Core before Astronomical Twilight starts washing out the Milky Way detail with its morning light.
