If you want to drive like Ayrton Senna, well, good luck. But you can start by learning his special technique for nailing high-speed corners that goes against all logic and instinct. But as we found out, it really works.
See, instead of being smooth with the throttle through a turn, the F1 legend would stomp on it rapid-fire, sometimes as many as 10 or more times in a few seconds. So we staged a track test with a 1991 Acura NSX—the same car Senna drove in a famous hot lap at Suzuka where he was filmed using this technique—to get to the bottom of how and why it worked for him.
There are three main theories: finding the absolute limit of grip, counteracting understeer, and maintaining a higher speed through the corner. It turns out that stabbing the throttle like Senna can help with all of those things, and the reason it does isn't too different from what a lot of you probably found out while playing early racing games like Gran Turismo with a button for a throttle.
