This knitting tutorial will show you how to knit the lace background stitch pattern, which is pretty straightforward except for one part where you need to hold the yarn over onto the needle whilst you pass a slip stitch over it. But once you have that down, you're on your way!

I really like the versatility of this stitch, because it changes a lot depending on the size of needle you use. In this video, I show you the effect of using 10mm and 6mm needles with chunky yarn; the result is squishy and drapey with large needles, and compact (and I think more like crochet) with smaller needles. This makes the same stitch ideal for a variety of uses.
