Learn how to knit Herringbone rib stitch (also know as Twill rib stitch) with this tutorial, which includes 2 different ways to knit C2B (cross 2 back) cables without using a cable needle.

The result is a raised rib pattern with diagonal narrow cables within them. This is just one way to make ribbing much more interesting :)

P.S. At the end of the video I show the Broad Spiral Rib stitch, which is very similar to the herringbone rib stitch but has narrower ribs. If you want to knit that instead, please find the pattern here:
Cast On a Multiple of 6 Stitches, Plus 2
Row 1) (WS) k2, *p4, k2
Row 2) p2, *C2B x 2, p2
Row 3) = same as Row 1)
Row 4) p2, *k1, C2B, k1, p2
Repeat from * on each row
