Wheeler Peak is the highest point in Nevada you can reach on an official trail, topping out at 13,063 feet. The round trip runs about 8.6 miles with 2,900 feet of elevation gain, starting from the Wheeler Peak Campground trailhead at over 10,000 feet. The altitude hits hard, so give yourself time to acclimate before pushing for the summit. Stop at the visitor center in Baker for water, maps, and current trail conditions. The trail is typically snow-free from late June through September, but afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer. If you're not used to high altitude, expect slower pacing and more breaks than usual.
