The president, pastor, director or board is understandably hesitant about using video as a tool for outreach. After all, it sounds like a big investment of time and money.
The best way to win their confidence is to show them your video plans. One of my clients spent a few months regularly forwarding videos from other Catholic groups – this helped the board understand how video can be used to advance their own mission.
When it comes time to make the pitch, you must lead with the goal of your outreach, followed by the results. Define clearly in black-and-white terms who you want to reach, then what the video will prompt them to do.
Sketch out a couple details about how you can achieve this - like who should be seen on camera, and what activities you want to highlight. You don’t have to get into the weeds - you’re just looking to build confidence that this video is possible.
Finally, outline a few ways that you’ll track the video’s performance, like video views or click rates. Then, share the results – what this could mean for your organization, both in the short- and long-term. There may be an immediate monetary return, there may also be lifetime connections made.
By clearly showing your plans, and the results they can expect, you’re sure to get the president or board on-board with your video project.
