Want to craft Isotonic Water in Subnautica 2? In this guide, I’ll show you where to find Flash Slugs, the creature you need to craft the best water item currently in the game.
Isotonic Water is one of the strongest hydration items in Subnautica 2, giving more water than the standard crafted water bottle. To make it, you need to collect Flash Slugs, which are glowing slug-like creatures found around the eastern side of the map near the Alien Ruins and Alien Power Plant area.
Flash Slugs are easy to see because they glow brightly, especially at night. The best time to search for them is after dark, when their glow stands out much more clearly against the terrain. Look around the Alien Ruins, Alien Power Plant, and nearby eastern map areas for lone Flash Slugs sitting out in the environment.
The catch is that Flash Slugs are annoying to collect. If you get too close, they can flashbang your character and temporarily blind you. The easiest method is to approach in your submarine, hop out quickly, grab the Flash Slug as fast as possible, then get back into your vehicle before the creature blinds you or before you get attacked by something nearby.
Flash Slugs also do not appear in large groups. They are usually found alone, so Isotonic Water is not the easiest water source to mass produce. Even though Isotonic Water is technically the best water item, it is only about 15 more hydration than standard water, which makes it better per bottle but not always better for bulk survival.
For regular hydration, it is usually more efficient to harvest a lot of Plant Fiber and use the Processor to craft standard water bottles in bulk. Standard water is easier to produce, the ingredients are easier to gather, and you do not have to chase down glowing little flashbang slugs one at a time in dangerous alien ruins.
So Isotonic Water is great if you want the best individual water item, but it is not always the best everyday water source. If you want convenience, use Plant Fiber and the Processor. If you want the strongest water bottle and do not mind hunting Flash Slugs, Isotonic Water is the better option.
