The Irish blackthorne walking stick known as Shillelagh is today well known because of the Irish stick figthing styles of Antrim Bata, Keegan bata or the style of the Doyle family.
This video contains the fighting advises for heavy walking canes like the Shillelagh from Percy Longhurst. He was dedicated to the Bartitsu club in London. Around 4 years after the club closed it's doors he published "Jiu-Jitsu and Other Methods of Self Defense" with a simpler method of using a walking stick in self defense on the streets then Pierre Vigny.
