This knitting tutorial shows you how to do the simple 'long tail' casting on technique, which is where you use a long yarn tail to add stitches to your needles at the beginning of a project.

I show you how to estimate how long the yarn tail needs to be, how to do the slingshot position, and how to do this method without making a slip knot to begin with.

Along with the 'knitted cast on' this is one of the most popular cast ons, and is definitely my most-used.
