In this DROPS video we show you how to cast on so the stitches look like knit 1, purl 1 when working on the round. This is a type of Italian cast on.
BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
The lighter strand is used as a helper strand and will be removed later.
After casting on, the stitches made with the lighter strand are around the purled stitches. Work the knitted stitches and take the purled stitches with the helper strand to the front of the piece.
Main strand = Strand 1. Helper strand = Strand 2.
THE VIDEO SHOWS:
Make a starting loop to hold the strands together and lay both strands parallel to the needle.
Pick up Strand 1 so it lies over the needle = 1 stitch on needle.
Bring the needle towards you and under Strand 2, then back over Strand 1 and up = 2 stitches on the needle. Repeat this process until you have the required number of stitches. We finished with a knitted stitch. Turn your work. Now work the helping rows. Work the knitted stitches and slip the purled stitches onto the right needle with the helping strand in front of the piece, repeat this for 2 to 4 rows (our video has 4 helping rows). Remove the helping strand, then continue with knit above knit and purl above purl to the desired length.
